You will learn about the causes of anxiety, different forms and how we work with anxiety in therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Therapy for anxiety with a psychologist: What is anxiety?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety is a bodily reaction in which the body reacts as if it is in danger, without it actually being so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety can take many different forms, from pure panic attacks to vague restlessness, tension, chest pressure, difficulty breathing, nausea, stomach pain, loose or hard stomach, blurred vision and dizziness. Sometimes also as paralysis or twitching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It may feel uncomfortable but is not dangerous and it passes. Which, by the way, can be a useful mantra when anxiety first strikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The many physical forms that anxiety can take mean that anxiety is often confused with physical illness and can cause health anxiety or hypochondria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety is basically something we all have the capacity to have. It is a normal fear response, but it occurs in situations without an external, objectively dangerous stimulus. The body is built to withstand this fear response. It is even completely indispensable for the survival of the species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-very-dark-gray-color has-vivid-green-cyan-background-color has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/oslopsykologvirke.no\/bestill-time\/\"><strong>Choose a psychologist and schedule an appointment<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What causes anxiety, what are the causes?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Often we do not know what anxiety is about. It may feel like it&#039;s coming out of the blue, but that&#039;s just because the trigger goes under the consciousness radar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anxiety is often an important signal of an underlying conflict within you. There may be conflicting emotions or needs that create conflict tension on the inside. And that may collide with the more or less conscious\u00a0<em>the performances\u00a0<\/em>one has about who one must be in order to enter into relationships with others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I can not show my disagreement. I can not show my vulnerability. I can not risk being rejected, I can not risk having to reject. I should not be annoyed with my mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the trigger for anxiety is unconscious, it often happens because you habitually ignore certain parts of your inner life. When you close your eyes or look the other way, you never really get a clear view of what is causing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people have also resigned themselves to the idea that people with anxiety are just the way they \u00abare.\u00bb This is not the case, but rather a sign of a chronic imbalance or conflict in their emotional lives that can be helped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our view, anxiety is not a &quot;disease&quot; that one &quot;gets&quot; or simply has to live with, although some people may have a more sensitive nervous system and therefore have a lower threshold for reacting with anxiety activation in the event of internal conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our experience, anxiety is in most cases strongly associated with specific psychological factors, often a mix of conscious and unconscious, and can often be remedied with appropriately tailored psychological help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Therapy for anxiety with a psychologist: Avoidance in a thousand facets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Human beings are built to respond to anxiety with avoidance. If there is a wild animal we are afraid of, we flee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When there is something inside us that we are afraid of, we have many different sets of ways to avoid it \u2013 which we often call defense mechanisms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it is an internal threat that we fear, it is unfortunately true that &quot;you can run, but you can&#039;t hide.&quot;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This, as well as the lack of knowledge about what anxiety really is, means that most people do not search constructively towards identifying and resolving the inner imbalance that anxiety signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is common for people to get caught up in the symptom of anxiety, to have anxiety about getting anxiety, to try to control it and\/or to try and avoid it when it is triggered or becomes visible to others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then you usually have it going in self-sustaining and self-reinforcing circles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Attempts at mastery become part of the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Constant monitoring triggers more anxiety due to hyper-attention and fearful interpretations of normal body sensations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Withdrawal and avoidance lead to a decline in functioning, and prevent opportunities for new experience that can have a learning effect on the anxiety response. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then it may often be necessary to start dealing with the symptom in a new way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most psychologists and therapies stop here. For some people it is sufficient, but far from for everyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A model that only works with sustaining factors in our view unnecessarily narrow and rests on a lack of holistic human understanding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is often an assumption that it is difficult, impossible, takes too long, or is simply not necessary to work with more underlying causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-very-dark-gray-color has-vivid-green-cyan-background-color has-text-color has-background\" href=\"https:\/\/oslopsykologvirke.no\/bestill-time\/\"><strong>Give therapy a try <\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Anxiety therapy with a psychologist: A combination of methods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At Psykologvirke, we have cutting-edge expertise in psychodynamic therapy that is not only symptom-oriented, but extends more into the core of what it means to be a human being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have particular expertise in short-term and intensive psychodynamic treatment (ISTDP) which aims to work in a depth-oriented manner in a more effective and targeted manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At our company, we can roughly say that the maintaining factors of anxiety are handled with new coping strategies\/tools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are often new attention strategies and interpretive strategies. This work often provides symptom relief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here we use principles from, among other things, cognitive behavioral therapy, metacognitive therapy and mindfulness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More basic causal factors are treated with intensive depth therapy (ISTDP), psychodynamic therapy, <a href=\"https:\/\/oslopsykologvirke.no\/emosjonsfokusert-terapi-hva-er-det\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"2067\">emotion-focused therapy<\/a> or existential psychotherapy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This treatment targets internal conflicts (often unconscious) that may be the basis for anxiety.
