Many people I meet describe that they have long been conscientious people who take on a lot of responsibility and set high standards for themselves. Eventually, they may feel that it is too much. When you seek therapy, it is important that the time in the therapy room is used well so that you feel better. My goal is to meet you in a way that makes you quickly feel that the work we do together creates change – both in how you feel and in how you meet the challenges of everyday life.
When you come to your first session, we spend time creating a shared understanding of what you want help with. Then I help you find a clear direction and what steps can help you get where you want to go.
Just because our classes are focused doesn't mean you have to rush. We work at your own pace, and I will support you along the way. If strong emotions come up, I will help you process them so they become easier to handle over time. Sometimes I will also challenge you so that you are left with something new.
I work particularly with people who experience burnout, anxiety or low self-esteem. Many of those I meet have long taken on a lot of responsibility and set high standards for themselves, before they eventually experience stress, inner turmoil or a feeling of having lost direction. It is then important to take action, so that one can strengthen one's own boundaries and live more in line with what feels right.
I am committed to working knowledge-based. Research shows that people who see life as a journey of development often experience greater meaning in life and better mental health. This perspective is taken from the philosophy of the "Hero's Journey", which is an important foundation in my approach. I have used the "Hero's Journey" in groups for mental training in the workplace, as well as in workshops and teaching for psychologists, psychiatrists and other health professionals. My experience is that people who work with this perspective often experience great effects.
I am a psychologist from the University of Bergen and have further training in depth psychology from NKI. I have broad clinical experience from working with children, adults, couples and groups, and have worked at DPS, family welfare offices and in private practice.
Since 2018, I have been guiding and teaching groups of healthcare professionals at various workplaces. I have also developed and run several group programs, including courses for social anxiety and mental training in the workplace.
Outside of the therapy room, I am a father of a young child, passionate about music and have many years of experience with improv theatre. Improv has taught me a lot about being present in the moment, listening properly and finding solutions when situations develop unexpectedly – something I also bring into my meeting with you.
