Who
If you long to feel more at home in yourself, then this is the course for you. Maybe you struggle with feeling like the world is an overwhelming place, feel unsafe in your body, or carry chronic tension, pain, or sleep issues. Maybe you find it hard to trust others, live with low self-worth and shame, or constantly fight the voices in your head. If so, trauma-informed yoga can be of great help.
Why
We know that traumatic experiences can cause a cascade of effects in the body, and there is now growing evidence supporting yoga as a beneficial adjunct to talk therapy. Yoga can reach places words cannot. Trauma-informed yoga involves slow movement, meditation, breathing and relaxation exercises, and other methods that work therapeutically with the physical and psychological manifestations of trauma.
What
Through this course we will create a brave space together where we explore connection to our body and ourselves through trauma-informed yoga. This course focuses on yoga practice as a mirror to understand ourselves and work on ingrained patterns in our bodies and nervous systems. We will practice staying with and lovingly tending to those parts of us we want to run away from, knowing we are doing this work together, in community. Everything in this course is a choice, including what practices you want to do, and whether you want to receive touch.
The goal is to increase your capacity to stay present with yourself, with the light and dark, and to slowly root yourself in your body as the foundation for living in this world. Trauma can strip us of agency, and through yoga we practice taking that agency back. Through this course you will learn tools that have the potential to support you for the rest of your life.

The course is led by Anja Hallan-Wolff, a clinical psychologists at Traumesenteret – Psykologvirke. She has practiced yoga since she was 18 and for the past ten years, she has taught in places as varied as a rehab clinic, international retreat centers, schools, small villages in northern Norway and in her therapy office with individual clients. Home to the Body is a synthesis of her work as a psychologist and yoga teacher, and she has been running it for several years.
Practical details
The course runs over six weeks on Tuesdays 14.30-16.00 at Terra Oslo and we start on October 6. The course has space for only eleven participants. Before the course begins, we’ll have an individual consultation where you can share what’s relevant for you and what you’re hoping to get out of the course. This also lets us check together whether the timing and fit are right.
Each yoga session works on a different theme. We finish each session with the option to share your experiences with the group, in order to integrate your internal experiences and be witnessed. After each session, you will be sent an audio recording of an exercise, as well as questions for reflection.
The course is not a replacement for individual therapy and is best suited for people with some stability and concurrent talk therapy.
